The holy wounds of Jesus are wounds of love. Have you been wounded by the betrayal of your love? Plunge yourself into the sacred wounds of Jesus Christ by devotion to him through his sacred wounds; they are wounds of love. Are you in despair or desolation? In the sacred wounds of Jesus is an ocean of every consolation, in which we must lose ourselves. Are you in want, or stripped of dignity? Plunge yourself into the holy wounds of Jesus through this devotion; he will restore your dignity. The holy wounds of Jesus are filled with spiritual treasures and trophies, and he will enrich you. Are you hurt from wounds? Go to the holy wounds of Jesus by means of devotion to his holy wounds; they are wounds of mercy, love, and strength, and he will raise you up and strengthen you. Do you feel within yourself a sense of hubristic pride or low self-esteem? Develop a healthy and perfect self-esteem by self annihilation in the sacred wounds of Jesus by means of the devotion to his holy wounds.
Are you in the midst of infidelity and distrust? From the holy wounds of Jesus flow out graces of fidelity and trust; plunge yourself therein by devotion to the holy wounds of Jesus, and you will find in them his love that loves us constantly, faithfully, and worthily. With devotion to the passion of Christ, there shall be faith for you in your days; the riches of salvation, wisdom, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord shall be your treasure. (Isa. 33:6). The holy wounds of Jesus are springs of living water, which give graces and new life. By this means of this devotion, you shall be supplied with graces that will give you a new life in Christ. St. Paul says: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ now lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Gal. 2:20).
Think of the treachery of one of his apostles, the abandonment by his friends, the denial of one of his disciples, the three hours of painful agony on the cross. Thus, we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with us in our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way as we are—yet did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Heb. 4:15-16).
Devotion to the passion of Christ is a devotion of love. This devotion is a sure remedy for all the spiritual ills of our soul. From this devotion arises every assistance we require for our different states of life and for the different conditions we find the state of our soul. It is by devotion to the passion of Christ or to any aspect of his passion that we find the spiritual strength and graces to withstand and overcome the various vicissitudes of life.
Let us pray. O Eternal Father, your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, died for love of me. I offer you all his sufferings, his agony and bloody sweats, his betrayal and arrest; all the reproaches and calumnies, all the scoffs and affronts, all the blows and buffets he endured for me; all his scourges, crowning with thorns, and the heavy cross he bore for my sins and for those of the whole world. I offer you his crucifixion and death, together with his glorious resurrection and triumphant ascension. I adore you and give you thanks for all he has done and suffered for us; and for giving us, in the Blessed Sacrament, his pledge of our redemption, his body and blood which he offered to you for us. Grant this through the same Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
