Luke 19:38-40: As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people couldn’t hold back their praise. They shouted with joy, honoring him as the King. But not everyone was happy. Some Pharisees wanted Jesus to stop the crowd. His response was powerful: “I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!” This passage reminds us that nothing can silence the glory of God. Let’s look at this passage and what they teach us.
"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord." The crowd recognized Jesus as the promised King. He wasn’t just any king—he came in the name of the Lord. This was a bold declaration that Jesus was the Messiah. We are called to proclaim Jesus in our lives, just like the people did on that day. Even when the world tries to quiet faith, we must speak his name with courage and faith. Jesus blesses us when we welcome him as King over our hearts. We do this through prayer, acts of love, and standing firm in our faith.
"Peace in heaven and glory in the highest." The people weren’t only celebrating what Jesus would do on earth. They were also praising the peace and glory that he brings from heaven. It’s a heavenly celebration mirrored on earth. When we praise God, we connect with heaven. Our faith brings peace—not only to our lives but to the world around us. In a time of stress and fear, we need this peace more than ever. Praise helps us shift our focus from our worries to God's greatness. And when we do that, heaven rejoices with us.
"If they keep silent, the stones will cry out." Jesus made it clear that he must be celebrated praised. If the people were quiet, creation itself would cry out. God’s glory cannot be hidden. There is power in worship. Our faith isn’t meant to be hidden. We should never be ashamed to praise and defend Jesus. Even when we feel small or unworthy, God calls us to lift our voices. And if we don’t, the very earth will cry out in our place. Let’s not let the stones do what we are called to do. Let’s be bold in our praise, generous in our love, and faithful in our witness.
Let us pray. Lord Jesus, you are our King. We welcome you into our hearts and homes. Help us to praise you boldly and live our faith with joy. May we never be silent in the face of your goodness. Let our voices bring peace and glory to your name. And when the world tries to quiet us, give us strength to stand firm. We want to be among those who cry out, “Blessed is the King!” Amen.
