The transfiguration of Jesus, described in Luke 9:28-36, is an awe-inspiring event. Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up a mountain to pray, and in that sacred moment, his divine glory is revealed. This passage is a reminder that when we take time to be with God, we can experience transformation and deeper understanding of his presence in our lives.
“While He Was Praying.” Jesus’ transfiguration happened while he was praying. It is in this moment of communion with the Father that his glory is revealed. His face changed, his clothes became dazzling white, and he was seen speaking with Moses and Elijah, who represent the Law and the Prophets respectively. When we enter into true, deep prayer, God’s light changes us from within. Jesus’ radiance is a visible sign of the divine life that we are also called to reflect in our daily lives. Are we making time for prayer in our busy lives? Jesus shows us that prayer is a place where transformation happens. If we desire to be renewed, strengthened, and led by God, we must make prayer a priority.
“Master, It Is Good That We Are Here. Peter, overwhelmed by the sight of Jesus in glory with Moses and Elijah, suggests building tents to keep them there. He wants to hold onto this incredible experience and remain in that place. When we experience something beautiful and divine, we want to hold on to the moment and never leave. But faith is not just about staying on the mountaintop; it is about taking what we receive and carrying it into our daily lives. The transfiguration was not meant to be permanent; it was meant to strengthen the disciples for the challenges ahead. There are moments in our spiritual journey when we feel deeply connected to God—times of peace, joy, and clarity. But faith is not about staying in those moments; it is about carrying that light into the struggles of life. Instead of clinging to spiritual highs, we must ask: How can I bring this experience into my daily walk with God?
“This Is My Chosen Son; Listen to Him.” As Peter speaks, a cloud overshadows them, and the voice of God declares, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” This powerful statement affirms Jesus' divine identity and commands us to listen to him. Are we truly listening to Jesus in our daily lives? Do we allow his words to shape our actions, decisions, and priorities? God reminds us that Jesus is his Son, and we are to listen to him. Through Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can attune our hearts to his voice.
The transfiguration is a reminder that Jesus is not just a great teacher or prophet—he is the Son of God, shining in divine glory. It calls us to seek transformation through prayer, to carry our faith beyond mountaintop experiences and to listen attentively to Jesus. Just as the disciples were changed by what they saw, may we also be changed by encountering Christ in our daily lives.
Let us pray: Lord, you revealed your glory to the disciples on the mountain, and you continue to reveal yourself to us in many ways. Help us to seek you in prayer, listen to your voice, and carry your light into our daily lives. Transform our hearts Lord so that we may reflect your love to the world. May we always trust in you, even when we do not fully understand your plans. Amen.
