The Sacred Heart of Jesus pulsates, and in its pulsation, it supplicates the Father for us sinners. Every heart pulsates when it pumps blood to other parts of the body and when it receives blood from the other parts of the body. Our Lord revealed one day to St. Gertrude in The Life and Revelations of St. Gertrude the meaning of the two admirable and loving pulsations of his Divine Heart. He said that each of these two movements of his Heart operates for the salvation of souls. The first operates for sinners, the second for the just. By the first beating of his Heart, he speaks to God our Father to appease him and to incline his mercy towards sinners. He then addresses himself to all his faithful; he leads them away from sin, with fraternal charity, he pardons their sins and faults, and he prays for them. He also speaks to sinners, mercifully calling them to repentance and penance, while he awaits their conversion with unimaginable desire.
By the second pulsation of his Heart, he speaks in the same manner to God our Father. He invites him to rejoice with him for the blood that he shed so fruitfully for the redemption of the just, in whose hearts Jesus finds delight in so many ways. He then calls upon all the host of heaven to praise him for the admirable lives of his saints, and to render him thanks, on their behalf, for all the blessings which he has bestowed on them and which he continues to bestow on them. Lastly, he addresses himself to the just, bestowing his love upon them in different ways, and inspiring them to advance daily and hourly in his love.
Is it any wonder then that Jesus said: “Where your treasure is, there also is your heart.” (Mt. 6:21). The Heart of Jesus is continually concerned with the salvation of our souls. We are the treasures, the trophies of his precious blood. How incomparably small is the number of souls who know about the Sacred Heart of Jesus! God cherishes our hearts in consideration of the merits of the Sacred Heart of his Son.
It is by devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that we can live sheltered lives and be protected from evil. The Heart of Jesus is a salutary fortress, for he is the only one who has an all-powerful and loving Heart. Address your afflictions to the Heart of Jesus; beseech him to be your light, your support, your peace, your refuge and protection, and your consolation. He has offered us all the treasures of love, grace, mercy, sanctification, and salvation, which his Heart contains. All who pray to his Heart accord him honor and love according in their abilities. He, in turn, enriches them with his treasures.
Some people feel an emptiness, a void in their heart. In an attempt to fill this void, some turn to food, material possessions, or vainglorious pursuits. However, these are but temporary solutions, unable to truly satisfy the longing of the human heart. The human heart yearns for a love that is pure, unconditional, and everlasting. This is where the Sacred Heart of Jesus comes into play. The Sacred Heart is not just a symbol, but a divine reality, a gift from our Heavenly Father meant to fill and satisfy our hearts. This love is not abstract or distant; it is personal and transformative. It is a love that heals, redeems, and fills the void in our hearts. When we invite the Sacred Heart of Jesus into our lives, we allow divine love to permeate our being. It satisfies our deepest longings and elevates our existence.
Let us pray. O most loving Heart of Jesus, Eternal Word of God, made Man for love of us. You took on flesh and dwelt among us. I humble myself at your feet. I adore you with the deepest veneration of my soul. In order that I may repair my ingratitude to your most Loving Heart, I unite myself with the hearts of all those who love you. Together with them, I offer you my humble loving thanksgiving. Pierced by the boundless goodness and sweetness in your Divine Heart, I beseech you to grant me your assistance so that I may grow in grace and in those virtues that are dear to you. Amen.
